Minimally Invasive Hip Surgery
Expert FAI surgery (femoroacetabular impingement) to treat hip pain and restore mobility. Dr. Daniel Feghhi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip arthroscopy procedures.
What Is FAI Surgery
FAI surgery (femoroacetabular impingement) is a minimally invasive hip procedure designed to correct abnormal bone contact between the femoral head and acetabulum. Dr. Feghhi uses advanced hip arthroscopy to reshape the hip joint and repair associated labral tears.
This condition occurs when extra bone grows on the femoral head (cam lesion) or along the acetabulum (pincer lesion), causing painful impingement during hip movement. Left untreated, FAI can lead to early osteoarthritis and chronic hip pain.
Are You a Candidate?
FAI surgery may be recommended for patients experiencing chronic hip pain, clicking, or stiffness that has not responded to conservative treatments.
Athletes and active patients experiencing hip pain during sports and physical activities.
Patients with labral tears associated with femoroacetabular impingement.
Those with abnormal bone growth on the femoral head causing impingement.
Patients with overcoverage of the acetabulum causing hip impingement.
Those experiencing limited range of motion and hip stiffness.
Those who have tried rest, physical therapy, or injections without relief.
The Procedure
Dr. Feghhi performs FAI surgery as an outpatient procedure using minimally invasive hip arthroscopy techniques.
You'll receive general anesthesia to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Dr. Feghhi will position your hip using special traction to provide optimal access to the joint.
Dr. Feghhi makes 2-3 small portal incisions around your hip. These tiny openings provide access for the arthroscope and specialized surgical instruments.
The arthroscope transmits high-definition images to a monitor, allowing Dr. Feghhi to carefully examine the labrum, cartilage, and impingement lesions.
Using specialized instruments, Dr. Feghhi performs the necessary repair - reshaping the bony impingement (cam/pincer lesion) and repairing any associated labral tears.
The incisions are closed with small stitches or steri-strips, and a sterile dressing is applied. You'll begin recovery in our recovery room before going home the same day.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery from FAI surgery requires patience and commitment to physical therapy. Most patients experience significant improvement within the first few months.
Recovery timelines are general guidelines. Your specific recovery depends on the type of procedure performed, your age, overall health, and commitment to physical therapy. Dr. Feghhi will provide personalized recovery instructions during your consultation.
