Elbow Surgery Specialist
Expert golfer's elbow release surgery to treat medial epicondylitis and eliminate elbow pain. Dr. Daniel Feghhi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive elbow procedures.
Understanding the Condition
Golfer's elbow is a condition that causes pain and inflammation on the inner side of the elbow, where the tendons of the forearm muscles attach to the medial epicondyle.
Golfer's elbow is caused by repetitive stress on the forearm muscles that control wrist and finger flexion. This overuse leads to tiny tears in the tendons, resulting in pain and inflammation on the inner elbow.
Common symptoms include inner elbow pain and tenderness, weakness in the wrist and hand, stiffness in the elbow, and pain that radiates into the forearm. Symptoms often worsen with gripping or lifting movements.
While called "golfer's elbow," it affects anyone who performs repetitive wrist and finger movements. Golfers, tennis players, painters, plumbers, and carpenters are commonly affected, along with anyone who overuse their forearm muscles.
The Procedure
Dr. Feghhi performs golfer's elbow release surgery as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure.
You'll receive regional anesthesia (nerve block) with sedation to ensure comfort during the procedure. The area is then cleaned and prepped for surgery.
Dr. Feghhi makes a small incision over the medial epicondyle to access the affected tendons. This minimally invasive approach reduces scarring and speeds recovery.
The surgeon carefully releases the affected tendon from the medial epicondyle, removing any damaged or degenerated tissue that's causing pain.
The incision is closed with sutures, and a sterile dressing is applied. You'll be monitored in our recovery room before being discharged home the same day.
Is This Procedure Right for You?
Surgery is typically recommended when conservative treatments have failed to provide relief.
Recovery Process
Recovery varies by patient, but here's a general timeline for returning to normal activities.
Focus on pain management, wound care, and gentle passive motion. A splint or brace may be worn for protection.
Begin physical therapy to restore range of motion and start gentle strengthening exercises.
Progressive strengthening of forearm muscles. Gradual return to normal activities and light sports.
Complete rehabilitation and return to full activities, including sports and heavy lifting.
