Minimally Invasive Hip Surgery
Expert arthroscopic bursectomy treatment to eliminate hip bursitis pain and restore mobility. Dr. Daniel Feghhi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive hip bursectomy procedures.
What Is Arthroscopic Bursectomy
Arthroscopic bursectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes the inflamed or infected bursa sac from the hip joint. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac that cushions bones, tendons, and muscles near joints. When it becomes inflamed (bursitis), it causes significant pain and limited mobility.
During hip arthroscopy, Dr. Feghhi makes small incisions and uses a tiny camera (arthroscope) to guide surgical instruments. This approach offers less pain, faster recovery, and reduced scarring compared to traditional open surgery. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes and is often done on an outpatient basis.
Are You a Candidate?
Arthroscopic bursectomy may be recommended when conservative treatments fail to provide relief from chronic hip bursitis.
Persistent inflammation of the hip bursa that hasn't responded to rest, medications, or physical therapy.
Athletes and active patients whose hip bursitis limits their ability to exercise or perform daily activities.
Bursitis caused by repetitive motions from running, cycling, or physical labor.
Patients who have tried rest, ice, physical therapy, and injections without relief.
Infection of the bursa requiring surgical drainage and removal.
Hip pain lasting more than 6 months that affects quality of life.
The Procedure
Dr. Feghhi performs arthroscopic bursectomy using advanced minimally invasive techniques for optimal results and fast recovery.
You'll receive local or regional anesthesia to numb the hip area. Dr. Feghhi will position your hip and mark the incision sites.
Two or three small (5mm) incisions are made around the hip joint to accommodate the arthroscope and surgical instruments.
The arthroscope transmits magnified images to a monitor, allowing Dr. Feghhi to visualize the inflamed bursa and hip structures.
Specialized instruments are used to carefully remove the inflamed bursa tissue while preserving surrounding healthy structures.
The incisions are closed with small stitches or surgical glue, and a bandage is applied. You'll be monitored briefly before going home.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery from arthroscopic bursectomy is typically faster than traditional open surgery. Most patients return to normal activities within 2-4 weeks.
Recovery timelines are general guidelines. Your specific recovery depends on your age, overall health, and commitment to post-operative care. Dr. Feghhi will provide personalized recovery instructions during your consultation.
