Lateral Epicondylitis Treatment
Expert tennis elbow release surgery to treat chronic lateral epicondylitis. Dr. Daniel Feghhi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in minimally invasive elbow procedures with proven results.
What Is Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful condition that occurs when the tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. Despite its name, athletes aren't the only ones who develop this condition.
The pain typically originates at the lateral epicondyle, the bony bump on the outside of the elbow. When conservative treatments fail to provide relief, tennis elbow release surgery may be recommended to remove damaged tissue and restore function.
Are You a Candidate?
Tennis elbow release surgery may be recommended for patients who have not responded to conservative treatments after several months.
Patients with persistent elbow pain lasting more than 6 months that hasn't improved with rest and therapy.
Those who have tried physical therapy, rest, medications, and injections without adequate relief.
Patients experiencing significant loss of grip strength due to damaged tendons.
Athletes and active individuals seeking rapid return to sports and physical activities.
Patients whose elbow pain affects their ability to work, especially in jobs requiring repetitive arm motions.
Those with confirmed tendon degeneration or tears visible on MRI imaging.
The Procedure
Dr. Feghhi performs tennis elbow release surgery as an outpatient procedure, using minimally invasive techniques for optimal recovery.
You'll receive regional anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia to ensure comfort. The elbow area is then cleaned and sterilized for the procedure.
Dr. Feghhi makes 1-2 small incisions over the lateral epicondyle. Through these minimal openings, specialized instruments are introduced.
The damaged portion of the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) tendon is carefully identified and released from its attachment point.
Any degenerative tissue, spurs, or damaged portions are removed to promote healing and reduce pain.
The incision is closed with sutures, and a soft bandage is applied. You'll begin recovery in our recovery room before going home the same day.
Recovery Timeline
Recovery varies based on the extent of the procedure and individual healing. Most patients experience significant improvement within the first few months.
Recovery timelines are general guidelines. Your specific recovery depends on the extent of surgery, your age, overall health, and commitment to physical therapy. Dr. Feghhi will provide personalized recovery instructions during your consultation.
